RYA AND DoT SHOREBASED COURSES

The focus of the shorebased course is you!

The basis of our courses is student focus with lots of hands on practice navigating and completing exercises using the charts and is aimed to be a social class.   The Day Skipper is a must!  It starts from scratch with navigation, weather, safety and is suitable for both experienced sailors who want to brush up, or fill in the gaps in their basic knowledge and for those new to boating and planning to take a boat on the water, especially if you are responsible for other people.  The Coastal Skipper/yachtmaster moves on from the Day Skipper qualification and brings into place the more intricate forms of navigation and  seamanship used in longer passages.

HOW TO BECOME AN RYA DAY SKIPPER with tidal endorsement – The Day Skipper certificate is in two parts.  The Day Skipper Shorebased course and the Day Skipper Practical.  By completing the two, students become a fully fledged RYA Day Skipper.

MAKING SURE YOU TAKE THE CORRECT COURSE FOR YOUR SAILING NEEDS.

Only in tidal waters such as the UK can you qualify with tidal endorsement.  Your Mediterranean Day Skipper practical qualification will be non tidal and requires a tidal conversion in order for you to progress fully in the RYA Sail Cruising Scheme.

Qualifications required for Chartering Abroad – Many countries require skippers to have an International Certificate of Competence as laid out in the European Working Party Directive 40.  To obtain a ICC you must have been practically assessed as being competent.  By taking the Day Skipper, you can automatically apply for an RYA ICC allowing you to legally operate a pleasure craft on up to 24M.
