Are you planning to purchase an older yacht?

Start how you aim to continue by choosing to take your sail training on a more traditional British built yacht.   Our Westerly GK29 is the smaller of our two UK yachts and is just right for small groups, couples and family team building.

Why take your RYA Start Yachting, Competent Crew or Day Skipper course on a large wheel steered yacht when your aim is to purchase one of the many reasonably priced traditional tiller steered vessels on the market.

Start Point Sailing offer the same first class tuition that you will find on our larger yachts, but offer an environment from which you can directly transfer your newly learned skills onto your own yacht.

Gundulph was build in 1979 and has been lovingly restored and equipped to DoT standards.  She is fully kitted out for local and offshore sailing with a large chart table, DSC VHF Radio, Nasa log/speed, echosounder, annometer instruments, chart plotter and chart folios for both The West Country, Channel Islands and Northern Brittany.  Charterers and RYA students alike have told us that she is fun and a pleasure to sail with many students returning as charterers following successful completion of their Day Skipper practical course.

She remains a popular vessel amongst the racing fraternity. Built along the same lines and the J class she holds her own against her modern counterparts achieving 8 knots with a favourable tide.

After an enjoyable and informative day on the water, retire to a rosy wood interior that reinforces that traditional feel.  With 6ft headroom in the main saloon there is more than enough space to swing the ship’s cat.

Onboard catering luxuries consist of a cooker with oven and two burners, cool box, sink and an optional fridge/hot box.  Prepare to create a culinary delight for four.   Gundulph boasts a large double fore-cabin, large single aft cabin in the main saloon and two bunk berths.  We provide sheets, pillows and cases, so just remember to bring your sleeping bag or duvet for a cosy nights sleep aboard.
