ON THE WATER

The focus of the practical course is you!

We offer a number of different options to enable you to get onto the water.  Our instructors are friendly, experienced and professional and have been sailing with us for a long time.  The basis of our courses is one of student focus. We aim to improve your skills through a process of practical teaching methods, informal and formal assessment, feedback with loads of time for you to practice new skills within a fun, safe and challenging environment under the guidance of your instructor.

The RYA Day Skipper is a must!   Students should have previously completed the Day Skipper Shorebased course or the 9 dayer enables you to combine the practical course with 4 days in the classroom.   It starts from scratch with navigation, weather, safety and is suitable for both experienced sailors who want to brush up, or fill in the gaps in their basic knowledge and for those new to boating and planning to take a boat on the water, especially if you are responsible for other people.  We offer courses on both wheel and tiller steered yachts.  Our GK29 is perfect if you are thinking of purchasing a second hand more traditional boat.

The Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster moves on from the Day Skipper qualification and brings into place the more intricate forms of navigation and  seamanship used in longer passages.  Subject to weather you will travel further than the Day Skipper, which is a close quarters course and complete one 60 mile passage as skipper.

Alternatively try out the sport with one of our experience days. A fun day where your instructor will build your skills – very much a “have a go day”, where you will be on the helm, hoisting the main brace and trying your skills under power and sail.  You can use this day as a trip up the river or play a real active part following the RYA Start Yachting syllabus.   Completion of two experience days can result in the award of the Start Yachting course completion certificate issued by Start Point Sailing.  The choice is very much yours.
