Follows on from the Day Skipper qualification and brings into place the more intricate forms of navigation and seamanship used in longer passages.

The practical Coastal Skipper course covers advanced skippering techniques for yachtsmen and women with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation, wanting to undertake coastal passages by day and night.

Planned itinerary UK, CI, France or SW UK Coast

Pre-course experience 15 days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours

Aim: you will be taught to a standard where you will be competent to skipper a yacht safely on coastal and offshore passages by day and night. The course assumes a knowledge of all subjects covered in the RYA RYA Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster shore based courses.

Practical Course Subjects include: Passage planning, preparation for sea, yacht handling power and sail, pilotage, passage making and improving skipper ability, adverse weather conditions and emergency situations.

Certification: Successful candidates are awarded an RYA Coastal Practical Course Completion Certificate.
Optional Certification: If required we can also include: ICC certificate (required for European waters) and the GMDSS SRC certificate.

Own boat tuition is available for this course – minimum two students.
