We offer a friendly and professional service for experienced sailors, novice sailors and landlubbers. Come down and discover the beautiful South West coast of England and beyond with us. Pick up your yacht from pontoon moorings on the shores of the historical River Tamar and take part in one of our experience days, skippered or bareboat charter, or an RYA training course.

Sail-West and Start Point Sailing Sea School start from a choice of two River Tamar practical bases, one in Cornwall, one in Devon. Our bases have been carefully chosen for their superb locations, being situated on the edge of an areas of outstanding natural beauty and opening up the whole of the South West UK coast, the Channel Islands and France for you to explore. The cruising ground of South West Devon and Cornwall is perfect for bareboat charter and training courses.

Heavy weather – no problem – The River Tamar and Plymouth Sound is a wide expanse of water perfect for exploring, practicing boat handling, seamanship and fun sailing within the boundaries of Plymouth Harbour with 4 excellent marina locations and a variety of watering holes for that après sail.

On the Water – We offer RYA Practical Courses including the RYA 9 day Day Skipper combined course – 4 days in the classroom and 5 practical days on the water, Start Yachting, Competent Crew, Coastal Skipper

Start Point Sailing Sea School and Sail West Charter is a stones throw from the popular Cornish family holiday destinations of Looe and Fowe and within easy reach of the Devon Tourist destinations of Salcombe, Noss Mayo, Dartmouth and Kingsbridge in the South Hams.. Make your holiday special. Stay at your holiday accommodation and take part in some Day Sailing starting from one of two departure points, Brunel Quay, Saltash, Cornwall or Mayflower Marina Plymouth, , Devon.

Off the water:Start Point Sailing RYA Sea School offers GMDSS SRC VHF Radio 1 day courses and RYA shorebased courses: including the 9 day Intensive RYA Day Skipper. Combine your Practical and Shorebased Day Skipper qualification: (4 days classroom based and 5 days practical course), Also, Start Point Sailing offer weekend and intensive 5 & 6 day bespoke RYA Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper courses during the spring and summer from Plymouth, and Cornwall on the edge of the River Tamar and in The South Hams from Ringmore, Dartmouth and Ivybridge. .Bareboat and skippered yacht charter in the South West of England and Greece,

Whether the Yachts are used for training or charter we pride ourselves on vessels that are fully DoT coded and well maintained, being subject to a stringent maintenance schedule which ensures our clients always have safe, operational craft. We have two yachts available for Bareboat charter from Devon and Cornwall, the Dufour 35 and Westerly GK29.

RYA Course and skippered charter and family day prices include waterproof hire, food on board and marina costs. We offer loyalty and group booking discounts. Give us a call to discuss your needs.

We would like to book a course or charter: To complete your booking give Start Point Sailing a call to check availability, You will need to complete a booking/charter form, make cleared payment in full. Bareboat charters with Sail West Yacht Charters require £1000 deposit in advance of your planned trip. Necessary references will also need to be taken up and qualifications verified so when planning your trip please leave enough time for this process. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and organise your sailing time.
